Current Regions
The GEMM Initiative is engaging universities, research centers, measurement standards agencies, companies, and other scientific societies around the world to form GEMM regional centers and provide a critical focal point for researches, technology developers, and policy makers. These multidisciplinary centers of excellence are focused on developing and sharing new measurement technologies and improved climate models.
New regional data will be integrated with data collected from existing environmental and climate networks to improve climate models and the accuracy of specific regional climate change forecasts. With the support of regional, subnational, and national governments these multidisciplinary centers are addressing information gaps to enable more effective government and commercial industry decision-making.
Stanford and UC Berkeley are cooperating to investigate air quality and greenhouse gas measurements in Northern California urban environments, as well as subsurface imaging of groundwater systems and incursion of seawater.
The Dodd-Walls Centre for Photonic and Quantum Technologies is a research center based at the University of Otago in Dunedin that is poised to begin investigating inland water quality.
Sentinel North, a Université Laval research program, is conducting transdisciplinary research on the changing Canadian Arctic and its impact on humanity. Université Laval hosts several multi-institutional pan-Canadian organization networks.
The University of Strathclyde is establishing a new program to monitor the Scottish water economy - its availability, quality and usage.
